A note on the name
Our 2015 page called this place "Hotel and Casino Divisamar Jungle Resort." Today it simply goes by Hotel Divisamar, and the hotel's own site no longer mentions a casino. We rechecked it in October 2026, when its site was current and its online booking engine was taking reservations.
What it's like
Divisamar was founded by a Costa Rican family that was part of the early tourism scene in Manuel Antonio, and it still feels like a straightforward, family-style hotel rather than a resort. The buildings are set in tiered gardens full of flowers and palms, with the pool and jacuzzi at the center.
There are two room types, superior and standard. Both have two beds, air conditioning, a private bathroom with hot water, cable TV, Wi-Fi and a fridge. The superior rooms are a bit roomier; the standard rooms are the cheaper choice. The hotel describes itself as one of the most economical options in the area, and that's the honest pitch here: a clean, practical base rather than a view hotel.
On site there's a French-style bakery and café, plus a sports bar and restaurant that serves breakfast and casual meals.
Location
The hotel sits on the left side of the main road from Quepos toward the park, about 5.5 km from the center of Quepos and across from Barba Roja restaurant. It's roughly halfway between town and the park, and about 1 mile from Playa Espadilla, the main public beach.
The big plus is the bus stop right in front. Local buses run about every 20 minutes during the day between Quepos, the beach and the park entrance, so you can manage fine without a rental car. A scenic trail that starts across from the hotel also leads down to the public beach. Plenty of restaurants are within a short walk along the road.
What to do from here
The front desk works with local partners for tours, including:
- Guided hikes in Manuel Antonio National Park
- Boat and kayak trips in the Isla Damas mangroves
- Rafting, horseback riding and catamaran tours
- Sportfishing, scuba diving and night walks
Sukia, a small adventure park with zip lines, a butterfly house and a reptile house, is about 0.2 miles away. For more ideas, see our Manuel Antonio trip planner.
Who it suits (and who it doesn't)
It suits budget travelers, families and backpackers who want a pool and a reliable bus at the door. If you want ocean views from your room or a quiet jungle hideaway, the hillside hotels farther up the road are a better fit.
Getting there
From San José it's about 2.5 to 3 hours by car on Route 34 through Jacó. Tracopa buses run from San José to Quepos, and from there it's a short taxi or local bus ride. You can also fly to Quepos airport and take a 15-minute taxi. Costa Rica Journeys has its own profile of Divisamar from its "jungle resort" days. For more on transport, see getting around Costa Rica.
